The Brooklyn borough hall is located at Flatbush Avenue and Jay Street in downtown Brooklyn. It is a six-story masonry building, with an octagonal cupola on the roof and a clock tower with four bells. The original building had an octagonal cupola and was built of red Vermont marble. The interior features rosewood wainscoting, carved oak paneling, and a grand marble staircase leading to the second-story balcony overlooking the main entrance on Flatbush Avenue. Today, it houses government offices including the Borough President's office, justice courts, municipal chambers, public library, auditorium/theater complex, conservation center, parks department offices, Department of City Planning (New York City), fire department headquarters, public works department headquarters, water supply bureau (Brooklyn), tax assessment district offices (Brooklyn), post office (Brooklyn), and police precinct station.
